Once upon a time in the greenest forest, there was a tiny snail named Sammy. Sammy had the shiniest shell in the whole forest. He loved his home and all its colorful plants, but there was one thing Sammy had never seen: a rainbow. He had heard from his friends, the cheery butterflies, about the wonders of a rainbow and wanted to see one very much.
One bright morning, as dew sparkled like diamonds on leaves, Sammy decided it was the perfect day to go on an adventure to find a rainbow. He packed a blueberry for lunch and set out across the forest floor.
On his way, Sammy met Lily, a bright yellow ladybug. “Where are you going in such a hurry, Sammy?” asked Lily.
“I’m off to find a rainbow,” Sammy replied with excitement.
“I’ve never seen a rainbow,” Lily chirped. “Can I join you?”
“Yes, of course!” Sammy said, happy to have a friend along.
As they slowly glided through the forest, the trees began to part, and they arrived at a babbling creek. Tiny fish swirled in the waters, and on the banks sat Freddie the frog, sunning himself.
“Hello, Freddie!” Sammy and Lily sang in unison.
“Good day,” croaked Freddie. “What brings you to my watery home?”
“We’re on a quest to see a rainbow,” explained Sammy.
Freddie blinked his big eyes thoughtfully, then offered, “I bet you might find one if you reach the meadow beyond the big hill. Rainbows love to stretch their colors across the sky where the land is open and wide.”
“Thank you, Freddie!” called Sammy and Lily, excitedly inching forward.
They crawled over stones and around tree roots until the forest opened up, and they reached the bottom of the grand hill. It loomed tall, but Sammy and Lily began their ascent with determination. Together, they encouraged each other and shared stories of all their forest friends to pass the time.
Finally, they reached the top and peered across the meadow with wide eyes. Clouds drifted lazily across the sky, and it wasn’t long before they saw a soft drizzle of rain begin far in the distance. Soon, the sun emerged, and there it was—a breathtaking arc of colors stretching from one end of the horizon to the other.
“Oh, how beautiful!” gasped Lily, her wings shimmering like jewels.
Sammy was speechless. His dream had come true, and he gazed at the rainbow’s colors—red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet—with utter delight.
As the sun began to set, they knew it was time to head back home. Their hearts filled with happiness and stories to tell. From that day on, Sammy always remembered his thrilling journey and how his shiny shell, alongside his bright friend Lily, had seen the colors painting the sky.
And so, with their gentle laughter echoing in the peaceful forest, the tiny snail and the lively ladybug turned toward home, leaving behind the trail of yet another wonderful woodland adventure.
